Cherry Blossom Day at the Capitol

Members of the Salem Japanese Cultural Society line up under the cherry blossom trees to take a photo in their kimonos.

The third Saturday of March is Cherry Blossom Day at the Capitol. Celebrate Spring, the blossoming cherry trees in the Capitol Mall and the impact of the Japanese culture on our state. We will be celebrating with booths, activities and performances from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Free and open to the public. Parking is free on Saturday.

Musical and Dance Performances in Rotunda (unless noted)

10 a.m.        Monmouth Taiko Drummers (Capitol steps)
10:30 p.m. Martial Arts Demonstration by Yoichi Kozuma
11 a.m.         Okinawa Sanshin Club Performance with Miwa,
John, Saori, Seika, Nanami and Yuko
Noon            Willamette University Koto Club Performance,
followed by SamaZama Duo – Masumi Timson and
Joseph Harchanko
1 p.m.           Kimono Fashion Show
1:30 p.m.    Bon Dance

Wakai Urasenke presents a Japanese Tea Ceremony in Hearing
Room C at 10:15, 11:15, 12:15 and 1:15. This presentation lasts
approximately 30 minutes.

Nana Goto-Bellarud presents an Ikebana demonstration in Hearing
Room D at 11, noon and 1 p.m. The demonstrations last
approximately 30 minutes.
