Digital Exhibit: “From Vanport to the Capitol: The Journey of Jackie Winters”
March 17 - April 30

The Vanport Mosaic presents “From Vanport to the Capitol: The Journey of Jackie Winters.” This digital exhibit will be online March 17 through April 30.
Jackie Winters survived the 1948 Vanport Flood—often called Oregon’s Katrina—and navigated the systemic barriers of 20th-century Oregon, from racial segregation to political marginalization. Through archival photos, oral histories, and immersive storytelling, this exhibit traces her path from adversity to leadership, from survival to public service. Discover how Winters championed food security, criminal justice reform, and economic opportunity, leaving a lasting mark on Oregon’s political and social landscape.
Since the historic portion of the Capitol is not accessible due to construction until late 2025, the physical exhibit is not scheduled in the Capitol Galleria until 2027.
